ORIGIN & FUNCTIONS


ELECTRICAL BOARD

The Electrical Board advises the Board of County Commissioners on matters relating to the Electrical Code. The Board also serves as an appeals board on matters relating to the Electrical Code and licensing (County Code, secs. 1-7-18, 2-6-1, 2-6-2).

Five members constitute the Board. They are appointed to five-year terms by the Board of County Commissioners (County Code, secs. 1-7-16 through 1-7-18).

BOARD OF GAMING APPEALS

No gaming event or bingo game may be operated in Frederick County until the appropriate permit has been obtained from the Director of Permits and Inspections. The denial or revocation of a gaming license or permit may be appealed to the Board of Gaming Appeals (County Code, secs. 1-2-101 through 1-2-113).

The Board of County Commissioners appoints the three members of the Board of Gaming Appeals to three-year terms (County Code, sec. 1-2-113).

BOARD OF LICENSE COMMISSIONERS

The Board of License Commissioners regulates the retail sale of alcoholic beverages in Frederick County (Code 1957, Art. 2B, sec. 15-112).

In Frederick County, the Board's three members are appointed by the Governor to five-year terms. The Board elects the chair (Code 1957, Art. 2B, sec. 15-103).

ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES INSPECTOR
The Alcoholic Beverages Inspector assists the Board of License Commissioners in enforcing the alcoholic beverages laws.

Appointed by the Governor with Senate advice and consent, the Inspector serves a five-year term (Code 1957, Art. 2B, sec. 15-103).

PERMITS & INSPECTIONS

Permits and Inspections started as the Permitting and Development Review Division to oversee Development Review Engineering, Development Review Planning, Life Safety, and Permits and Inspections. In February 2011, the Division was reformed as Permits and Inspections and placed under oversight of the Community Development Division.

ADVISORY PLUMBING BOARD

The Advisory Plumbing Board assists the Plumbing Inspector in the promulgation and enforcement of the Plumbing Code. To the Board of County Commissioners, the Board also recommends changes in the Plumbing Code (County Code, secs. 1-14-36 through 1-14-41).

The Board of County Commissioners appoints the five members of the Advisory Plumbing Board to four-year terms (County Code, sec. 1-14-37).
