Final Report to General Assembly due Sept. 30, 2012.


The Maryland Commission on Autism was authorized on October 1, 2009 (Chapters 337 & 338, Acts of 2009; Code Health-General Article, secs. 13-2801 through 13-2806). The Commission is charged with advising and making recommendations to the Governor, General Assembly, and relevant State agencies concerning services for persons with autism spectrum disorders, including health care, education, and adolescent and adult issues. Further, the Commission is to develop a comprehensive statewide plan for an integrated system of services, training, and treatment to affected individuals of all ages. Meeting at least once quarterly, the Commission evaluates ways to promote public awareness of autism sprectrum disorders, and reviews any findings from summits or conferences on the subject convened by the State.

The Commission consists of twenty-six members. Nineteen are appointed by the Governor, two represent the General Assembly, and five serve ex officio. Authorization for the Commission extends through September 30, 2012.
